Mariam Younan, deputy of the Good Shepherd Monastery in Suez, said that the Engineering Department of the Armed Forces started the reconstruction work of the monastery today.
She added that the restoration work will include rebuilding a church, nuns housing, medical clinics and orphans shelter. They had to move the children in order to allow the engineers do their job.
She stressed that they did all what they could with the help of Catholic Relief Services by the reconstruction of the Good Shepherd school, but they could do nothing to the other buildings.
The monastery and the other buildings were burned on August 14, 2013, after the dispersal of Rabaa Adawia and Nahda sit-ins.
