Egyptian authorities’ initial investigations revealed that the American citizen who was arrested Sunday in Giza did not incite protests, a security official told al-Bawaba news, and he was ordered deported after his passport was checked.
American citizen David Victor was detained Sunday in Giza after initial suspicions of inciting protests, when patrons heard him practicing Arabic and asking about politics a day before the fifth anniversary of January 25 Revolution, Youm7 reported.
Victor reportedly denied the accusations, saying he was talking with people on sporting clubs of al-Ahaly and Zamalek, adding that he was learning Arabic and the Egyptian accent by talking with Egyptians.
The security official added that he was taken to the authority of migration and passport to check his papers, Youm7 reported.
The U.S. embassy in Cairo said it was following news reports, but declined to comment on any specific case.
The café owner Moahmed Abdel Aziz said that he knew Victor for six months and he was learning the Arabic language.

On Dec. 22, 2015 in marking the Prophet Mohammed’s birthday, Sisi warned of staging protests ahead of the anniversary of 2011 uprising, noting that any “revolt” could destroy the country, Reuters reported.
