Pope Tawadros II awarded United Arab Emirates State Minister Sultan Al Jaber the Shield of the Coptic Church Thursday in appreciation of the two Arab countries’ cooperation, Youm7 reported.
Al Jaber then headed to participate in the inauguration of the Coptic Museum in Obour City, east of Cairo. He visited the Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (Vacsera,) which is funded by the UAE.
The Pope also awarded Egyptian International Cooperation Minister Sahar Nasr the Shield for her role in development projects that serve underprivileged citizens, according to Youm7.
Nasr thanked the UAE for its cooperation in renovating damaged places of worship.
The UAE has been a major contributor to the Egyptian economy since the 2013 ouster of President Mohamed Morsi. It pledged $4 billion during the March 2015 Egypt Economic Development Conference; $2 billion in the Central Bank of Egypt and $2 billion in the economy.
