Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry left to Rome to participate in a U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State group (IS) conference Tuesday, after which he will head to London for the Syria Donors Conference, Youm7 reported.
U.S. Secretary of State will also attend the two conferences, according to a State Department statement; representatives from Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Turkey will also attend the anti-IS meeting, in addition to several Western countries and the European Union.
On Thursday, the Syria Donors Conference 2016 will be hosted jointly by the U.K., Germany, Norway, Kuwait and the United Nations to push for $9 billion in aid for millions of at-home and diaspora Syrians struck by violent turmoil in their country.
The 2015 conference failed to reach the targeted amount of $8.4 billion, amounting to only $3.3, according to a statement by the British Prime Minister’s Office.
