Court freezes funds of Mubarak-era interior minister, 12 policemen pending trialcorr

The Cairo Criminal Court on Sunday has issued an order to freeze all assets of Mubarak-era interior minister Habib al Adly and other 12 policemen and their families pending trial on suspicion of wasting public funds, Youm7 reported.

The court also ordered the names of the 13 defendants listed on travel ban.

This came during the first session of their trial on charges of squandering public funds during their time in office.

The defendants face charges of misappropriating a total of 2.3 billion EGP ($270 million) in state funds by illicitly signing over bonuses to police officers and leading figures on the ministry during the period 2000-2011.

In Feb. 2015, Adly and former Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif were acquitted of charges of squandering 92 million EGP in public funds by illegally granting a direct order to a contractor to fabricate license plates.
