Cairo Criminal Court resumed on Monday the trial of former President Mohamed Morsi and 10 others over espionage charges.
The defendants are facing charges of leaking documents sensitive to the country’s national security, including some related to the deployment of armed forces and intelligence information to Qatar, a chief financial and political backer of Morsi’s government.
Defendants include members from Morsi’s presidential staff and reporters from the Qatari-owned Al-Jazeera news channel.
Morsi and dozens of senior Muslim Brotherhood leaders have been facing retrials over several other charges of murder and collaboration following his overthrow in 2013.
