Chief of Staff Mahmoud Hegazy met with his United Arab Emirates counterpart Hamad Mohammed Thani al-Remaithy in Cairo Monday to “enhance military coordination,” according to an Egyptian military statement.
The two colonel generals discussed “counter terrorism” efforts and stability in the Middle East, as well as consolidating Arab coordination to face “challenges facing the people in the region,” military spokesperson Mohamed Samir said in the statement.
In December, Saudi Arabia announced a coalition of 34 mainly Muslim countries, including Egypt and UAE, to fight “terrorism” in the region. Egypt is also part of the Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis in Yemen.
