Democracy will be achieved in 20-25 years: Sisi

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said that democracy is a long and continuous process and that enshrining it will take between 20 to 25 years, which he considered to be a short period of time to achieve the goal.

Speaking to Jeune Afrique magazine, Sisi said that Egypt's current political process has only existed for four years, adding that the system contines to grow and the people’s will should be respected.

Development is an essential condition to achieving democracy, he said, adding that the ongoing situation requires enhancing education, fighting corruption and poverty and adopting human rights standards that respect society.

Jeune Afrique's exclusive interview with Sisi was published in mid-February under the title "The world's fate revolves in Egypt".

Journalists Laurent De Saint Perier and Francois Soudan interviewed Sisi for the issue, which addresses issues of terrorism, military intervention in Libya, judicial rulings in Egypt, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, human rights and the Muslim Brotherhood.
