The four security personnel were executing a ruling issued by the prosecution to get rid of an improvised bomb, found few months ago, in front of a Nile deck near Daraw police station.

First Lieutenant Ghazy Hanafy Mahmoud reportedly suffered severe hand injuries when the bomb went off.

Mahmoud was transferred to Daraw Central Hospital to receive necessary treatment to his hand.

Several incidents of bombs detonating near police facilities have frequently took place amid a series of attacks targeting police and army sine the 2013 ouster of the President Mohamed Morsi.

A police conscript was killed and two others were injured after unknown armed men opened fire at a security checkpoint in Giza.

Around 138 policemen were killed during 2015 due to terrorist attacks, according to the Interior Ministry.

Hundreds of police personnel were killed in such attacks. In the past years, bomb squad forces have been commonly seen in the streets dissolving bombs. In some cases, bomb experts died out of what was blamed on lack of protection provided to forces while dealing with bombs. Ever since, experts were seen in protection suits, while others remotely detonate the bombs.
