U.K.’s easyJet to resume flights to Sharm el-Shiekh May 29: tourism minister

The U.K.’s easyJet will resume flights to Sharm el-Sheikh May 29, while British Airways will begin flying to Egypt in September for the first time since late October 2015, Youm7 reported Tourism Minister Hisham Zaazou Monday.

At a meeting with the Egyptian Travel Writers Association (ETWA), Zaazou said he is following up the potential of lifting the U.K.’s travel ban to Egypt with British officials.

Zaazou also said he had met with Planning Minister Ashraf al-Araby and the two agreed to establish a joint tourist investment company with the private sector and Arab investors. The company would buy planes and acquire companies abroad so flights to Egypt may continue during crises when foreign tourist companies stop promoting the country as a holiday destination, he added.

Foreign security crews are visiting Egypt to review safety procedures at airports, with Cairo, Sharm el-Sheikh and Marsa Alam airports at the forefront, according to Zaazou.

Meanwhile, a promotion program aims to attract tourists from 20 countries and introduce Egypt to new markets such as the Czech Republic, Morocco, Poland and Spain, the minister said.
