Abba Serapion, Bishop of Los Angeles, said the Holy Synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church acknowledged abandonment for five years as reason for divorce.
This came in the seminar attended by 109 Coptic bishops at the monastery of St. Bishoy in Wadil Natroun.
On the other hand, Dr. Andria Zaki, head of the Anglican Communion, said that the Coptic churches refused to acknowledge civil marriage in the new law.
