Sisi rebukes gov’t over ‘costly’ security measures

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi rebuked Wednesday the Minister of Interior and the Prime Minister over the “high cost” of security measures for the new headquarters of the Interior Ministry with 1,000 police conscripts.

“Making people stand more than 24 hours to secure!?…That is an old thing and costs million of pounds in the whole year for (providing) food, clothes, and medical treatment.,”

Sisi told Minister Magdy Abdel-Ghaffar and Prime Minister Sherif Ismail during inauguration of new headquarters of the ministry in New Cairo-based Police Academy.

President Sisi added that the headquarters was established inside the academy to take advantage of its high security.

The ministry’s administration sections, which were transported to the new headquarters Jan. 23, have been equipped with the “latest technology,” a security official told Youm7 Tuesday.

Since the January 25 Revolution against former President Hosni Mubarak’s regime and his police state, the ministry’s previous building downtown has been attacked by several protesters over police violations against civilians.

The old building was constructed in 1805 after a security order from Muhammad Ali Pasha. However, its name was changed to the Ministry of Interior in 1857.
