Sisi mandates army to eliminate transgressions on public roads

CAIRO: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi issued a presidential degree that authorizes the armed forces to eliminate illegal buildings and all kinds of violations against public roads nationwide, Al Ahram reported Thursday.

The decree grants the Egyptian armed forces the power to monitor violations and transgressions built two kilometers from the two sides of public roads.

In July 2014, a month after he assumed power, Sisi initiated the national project for roads, which includes 39 roads with a total length of 4,400 km at an investment of 36 billion EGP.

Expected to be completed in 2018, the new road network will account for around 10 percent of the total length of all roads in Egypt.

Among the planned roads are the 180-kilometer long Sohag – Red Sea road and the 135-kilometer long Wadi al-Natrun – Al Alamein road.
