Slowness is better to achieve good reform of religious speech, MP

Chairman of Religious Affairs parliamentary committee Osama Al-Abd demanded Speaker Ali Abdel Aal to involve members of his committee in the fact-finding mission scheduled to be authorized to investigate the recent sectarian incidents witnessed in Minya, Youm7 reported on Sunday.

Al-Abd said, “We issued a statement to express resentment over the incidents witnessed in Minya. We stressed the need for punishing those people who fueled the situation.”

Upper Egypt’s province Minya witnessed a number of sectarian incidents last week against the backdrop of a scrimmage between Muslims and Christians that led to the killing of one person and injury of three others.

He refuted the complaints over the slowness of his committee to activate the reform of religious speech in Egypt, saying, “If our steps are slow to achieve good reform, it will be better than hastiness.”
