CAIRO (UPDATED)- President Hosni Mubarak Tuesday led the funeral of MP Kamal el-Shazli, Egypt's long-serving lawmaker, who had died earlier in the day, according to the official Middle East News Agency. Mubarak joined a funeral prayer in a mosque in Nasr City in Cairo and offered condolences to el-Shazli's two sons, added the agency.
El Shazli, who was preparing for running in the November 28 legislative elections, was a senior politician in the ruling Party and served as its chief whip in the Parliament for many years.
His last post was heading the State-run National Specialised Councils. Shortly before his death, he was admitted into hospital for disorder in the digestive system.
He has been an active politician in the Egyptian politics over the past five decades.
