Egyptian chemist Ahmed Zewail's body is set to arrive in Egypt on Saturday morning for a military funeral and burial that will be held in the morning of the next day.
President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and a number of high ranking military figures are expected to attend the funeral.
Consolation will be held on Monday, for both men and women, at El-Moshir Tantawi Mosque in New Cairo.
According to Zewail's media representative, Sherif Fouad, all measures for transporting his body from the United States to Egypt are finalized.
The timing of Zewail’s committal will be announced later by the presidency once preparations for the Nobel winner's military funeral have been finalized. He is expected to be buried in the family’s cemetery in 6 October suburb of Giza.
Although Zewail has no military background, he will receive a military funeral as he was awarded the Grand Collar of the Nile. Recipients of the award are entitled to a military funeral, the highest Egyptian state honor.
Zewail's media representative Fouad added that Zewail City has decided to open a condolence book for Egyptians, fellow Arabs and foreign diplomatic missions willing to express their condolences starting Thursday in the Zewail City headquarters in central Cairo.
Nobel Prize winner Ahmed Zewail passed away on Tuesday after losing a long battle to cancer at the age of 70.
Zewail dedicated his life to science and research and was instrumental in developing four-dimensional electron microscopy.
In 1999, he received the Nobel Prize for his study of chemical reactions.
