Egypt’s former Mufti, Ali Gomaa, said he escaped an assassination attempt after four “terrorists” opened fire while he was heading to the mosque for Friday prayer.
In his statements to the state-run TV, Gomaa said that the shooters were hiding behind the trees surrounding the mosque, which he said is 40 meters far from his home in 6 of October city, Giza.
Gomaa added that when he heard the fire shots, he hid behind the mosque’s fence.
After the attempted attack, Gomaa insisted to enter the mosque and give the Friday sermon, in what he described as “a message to those terrorists” that he will not hesitate in fighting them until he dies.
