Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker said on Thursday that he plans to announce new price categories for electricity usage, saying that a press conference will be arranged soon for the purpose.
In an interview broadcast on Dream Channel on Thursday evening, Shaker said that the state takes low-income customers into account when setting the new pricing regime.
Shaker has increased electricity prices as a prelude to the cancellation of electricity subsidies, in accordance with a 2014 plan for the removal of state subsidies in the sector.
The new prices will be applied starting July, according to the minister, suggesting that they will be applied retrospectively.
