Egypt's consumer confidence rises in Q2/2016: Nielsen's report
Egypt's consumer confidence increased by three points in the second quarter of 2016 (April-June) to reach 81 points, according to the latest data form Nielsen’s Consumer Confidence Index (CCI).

"In the Middle East/Africa, confidence was stable at 89, a one-point increase from the first quarter," read the report published last week by the New York-based corporation.

Job prospect sentiment improved two percentage points in Egypt, although the personal-finance sentiment was flat.

An average of about one quarter of respondents in the Middle East and Africa said they had no spare cash after paying basic living expenses, while Egypt and Morocco were above this average with 31 percent and 29 percent of respondents saying the same.

Egypt was placed fifth out of six Middle East/Africa markets measured for the report.

The global average of consumer confidence is set at 98 points, while the “optimism baseline” registered 100 points, which was exceeded by several markets such as India, the US, the Philippines, China, Pakistan, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Egypt’s CCI comes in line with Slovakia and is above the index points of Spain (80 points), South Africa (78 points), France (66 points), Belgium (76 points) and Japan (69 points).

Egypt’s index point is below that of Morocco (83 points), Turkey (98 points), Saudi Arabia (104 points) and the UAE (109 point).
