Sudanese President Omar Al Basehir said that it is significant to restore the trust among the three countries of Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia regarding the controversial Ethiopian dam of Renaissance.
In an interview with an Egyptian magazine published Friday, Bashir the trust has been lost during the former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi’s one-year tenure when he threatened openly to striking the under-construction Ethiopian dam in 2012.
Since May 2011, Cairo has voiced its concern that the dam could reduce the country’s annual share of more than 56 billion cubic meters of Nile water. Addis Ababa, however, has claimed that the dam is necessary for its development, and will not harm downstream countries.
