Ruling party wins seats in polls

CAIRO - Several candidates from Egypt's National Democratic Party Monday won seats in the legislative elections as the party, in power for more than three decades, is expected to sweep the polls.

Minister of Military Production Sayyed Meshal won in Helwan, south of Cairo, as his colleague, Fauza Abul Nagaa won in the coastal city of Port Said.

Meanwhile, Hesham Moustafa Khalil, a ruling party's candidate, defeated outspoken independent Gamila Ismail in Qasr el-Nil, Cairo. The final results are due to be announced on Tuesday.
