Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark See, invited the Holy Synod to an emergency meeting on Wednesday to discuss the bill of building churches.
The Coptic Orthodox Church has announced last Thursday its rejection of the bill after the government had introduced some amendments.
Coptic activists said that allowing the Copts to build houses of worship will eliminate sectarian strife and support national unity and equal rights of citizenship.
