Sisi, Putin agree on sending Russian delegation to inspect Egyptian airports: MENA

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi agreed with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin that a Russian delegation will be sent to Egypt "in the coming days" to inspect airports in anticipation of resumption of commercial flights between the two countries, state news MENA reported.

Russia, along with several other countries, suspended passenger flights to Egypt last year over security concerns after the crash of a Russian jet minutes after taking off from Sinai's Sharm El-Sheikh, killing all 224 onboard.

The two presidents, who met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in China's Hangzhou, also discussed a number of regional and international issues as well as the latest efforts to combat terrorism and extremism, with a focus on combining efforts in face of terrorism.

The downing of the Russian flight was a heavy blow to Egypt's tourism industry. The number of tourists coming to Egypt dropped by 50 percent in the first half of 2016 compared to the same period last year, according to Egypt's Tourism Authority.

Tourism revenues during that period witnessed a drop of 60 percent compared to 2015.
