Egypt’s Nawara to open Sweden's Malmo Arab Film Festival

Egyptian film Nawara was selected as the opening film for the 6th Malmo Arab Film Festival in Sweden, which opens on 30 September and runs till 5 October.

The award-winning film is also set to compete in the category of best feature.

The film earned two best actress awards for star Menna Shalaby at the 12th Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) in December 2015, and at Morocco’s Tetouan International Mediterranean Film Festival in April 2016.

Nawara is set in the wake of the 2011 revolution, centering on a woman in her twenties who works as a housemaid at a villa in a luxury compound.

As the owners flee the politically unstable country, she invites her fiancé over, and together they enjoy a taste of the life of the rich and famous.

Nawara was released in Egyptian cinemas in May 2016.

Director Hala Khalil will attend the film’s Swedish premiere.
