Egypt’s FM to fly to US ahead of Sisi UN visit

Egypt’s Foreign Affairs Minister Sameh Shoukry will travel to New York on Thursday, ahead of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s US visit next week to attend the United Nation’s general assembly, state news agency MENA reported.

Shoukry will meet with a number of his foreign counterparts in the US to discuss current regional and international issues, MENA added.

Some of the meetings El-Sisi is set to attend are the Security Council’s summit on Syria, held on 21 September, a meeting on immigrants and asylum seekers, and an African leaders’ meeting on fighting climate change.

Shoukry will attend a ministerial-level meeting on 22 September on the current situation in Libya that will focus on reinforcing security and stability efforts in the North African country.

This year’s UN general assembly’s theme is “The Sustainable Development Goals: A Universal Push to Transform our World.”
