International classical and Sufi music to meet at Cairo's El-Sawy Culturewheel

On Friday, 23 September, the Sufi music performers from Alhadraa band will join Awtar quartet in a unique night at El-Sawy Culturewheel.

The evening will bring to the audience a creative dialogue between Oriental tunes, Sufi poetry and music, on the one hand, and Western classical compositions on the other hand.

This is not the first time for Awtar quartet to explore new layers of musical encounters. Since their founding in 2012, the ensemble joined in many artistic cooperations, bringing music to a variety of audiences.

The quartet consists of Egyptian musicians Yasser Ghoneim on first violin, Khaled Saleh on second violin, Essam Abdel-Hamid on viola, and Mohamed Abdel-Fattah on cello.

According to the information released by El-Sawy Culturewheel, "Alhadraa band is formed of a group of religious singers and Mobtahelin descending from different Sufi methods, and present a spiritual state of religious singing, Ibtehalat, Dhikr and praise. They depend on traditional poems of the great shiekhs of Sufism about love of God and praising the Prophet Mohammad."
