The Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayeb is to start on Tuesday a several day tour that includes visits to the Kingdom of Bahrain as well as Switzerland with the aim of "enhancing dialogue and clarifying the message of Islam", reported the Ahram Arabic website.
In Bahrain, El-Tayeb is planned to meet King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa as well as head the regular conference of The Muslim Council of Elders held in the country's capital Manama.
In Switzerland's Geneva, El-Tayeb will attend an interfaith dialogue conference organizsd in cooperation with the World Council of Churches.
Al-Azhar is the world's oldest seat of Sunni Islamic learning.
Under the Egyptian constitution, the 1,000-year-old seat of Islamic learning Al-Azhar is in charge of regulating Islamic preaching.
