Egypt's presidential spokesman denied on Monday the possibility of allowing foreign military bases in the North African country, putting an end to media reports that Russia is negotiating with Cairo to construct a military base near the Mediterranean, Ahram Arabic website reported.

The media reports, started by Russian daily newspaper Izvestia, claimed that Russia is negotiating to rent a number of military buildings, including an air base, in Sidi Barani town, 95 kilometers east of the Egyptian-Libyan borders, to be ready for operation in 2019.
A military source also told Ahram Arabic that other countries wanted to build military bases in Egypt, which it strongly rejected stating that it's against the principles of the political administration.
