The U.S. Embassy in Cairo condemned on Sunday in the strongest terms the brutal murder of Brigadier Adel Ragaai.
“We express our deepest condolences to the families of Brigadier Ragaai and the other victims of this murderous act. The United States stands firm with Egypt in combating terrorism,” the embassy announced in a statement.
Ragai, commander of the army’s 9th armored division based at the military base of Dahshour west of Cairo, was shot dead near his home in an eastern Cairo suburb Saturday.
A group called Liwa al-Thawra claimed responsibility for the attack, in a message posted on Twitter hours after the assassination.
