President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi expressed sincere congratulations to Lebanese people after electing Michel Aoun for presidency, in a statement by the presidency.
The Lebanese Parliament elected Aoun to assume the post of the republic president in a Monday session.
Sisi welcomed electing Aoun as an “important step to establish the concept of the national state…achieving political stability and ending a presidential vacuum.
The election ends a two-year stalemate in Lebanon; the country has been without a head of state since Michel Suleiman stepped down by the end of his term in May 2014.
