The government embarked on revising a database for holders of subsidized food commodities ration cards, Youm7 said, citing a statement of Prime Minister Sherif Ismaiel on Thursday.
The government is now taking measures to remove deceased Egyptians, travelers and repeated names or registered by mistake from the list of ration card holders, Ismaiel said.
The government has allocated 38.4b EGP in this fiscal year’s budget to subsidize bread and food subsidies programs following decisions in recent years to significantly cut subsidies, he said.
In July 2014, the supply ministry developed a new system that provides ration card holders access to 20 different products, including meat and poultry products.
