The Egyptian Armed Forces announced in a statement on Wednesday that life is gradually returning to normal in North Sinai's Shiekh Zuwaid city following a days-long military operation that aimed to "cleanse [the city] of terrorists."

The statement added that the army has distributed thousands of food items and provided medical services to residents.
Battles between militants and the Egyptian army have been regularly taking place in North Sinai since 2013, mostly concentrated in the cities of Shiekh Zuwaid, Rafah and El-Arish.
This year the Egyptian Armed Forces launched a major military operation named "Martyrs retribution" to combat militants in North Sinai.
