The Interior Ministry released on Thursday 149 detainees who have been pardoned by a presidential decree.
Head of the Prisons Sector Major General Hassan al-Sohagy formed committees to examine the files of inmates who deserve to be pardoned and have their remaining period of confinemend waived. He found that 67 inmates deserved the pardon.
Other 82 inmates were conditionally released in accordance with the decree.
According to the statement by the ministry, this step comes as part of the Interior Ministry's "keenness to uphold the values of human rights and to provide various aspects of care for prisoners; releasing those who have been rehabilitated and can get reintegrated into the community again."
