Religious discourse between Al Azhar and Awqaf

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has been calling for nearly three years on Al-Azhar Sheikhs to develop the religious discourse, but they didn’t. In fact, Sheikh of Al-Azhar is responsible for Al-Azhar religious and educational institutions. Therefore, he is responsible for developing and changing education curriculum that incites violence and terrorism. Changing the wrong concepts of the graduates of Al-Azhar who work in all state institutions, especially the Ministry of Education, Interior and Justice.

There should be some sort of coordination between educational institutions of Al-Azhar and other educational institutions to fix the curricula and the way of education.

The development of religious discourse is the responsibility of the Ministry of Awqaf of the Egyptian government. It is responsible for the appointment of imams and preachers who are paid by the taxpayers of all Egyptians. Therefore, they should be appointed based on strict rules to make sure they don’t belong to extremist groups and stick to ensure compliance with regulations and speeches started.

Media has to play its role in promoting the moderate sheikhs and Islamic scholars instead of the extremists. TV programs and talk shows have to make sure they are efficient, reliable and moderate before hosting them.
