In Nag Mohidat, Luxor, the sedition decided to attack the beautiful city that was chosen the capital of Arab culture and is full of Pharaonic temples. This city is full of tourists and history as it has always been capital of art, science and ethics.
The sedition of Mohidat came with rumors that the Christian girl Amira Girgis, 17 years old, has converted into Islam before on of the Sheikhs in her small town. The rumors assured that her father has moved her from her from house to an unknown place. Dozens of people headed to her house demanding her father to hand her over to them where to find her. They assured that their new Muslim sister is married to a Muslim young man called Ibrahim, 19 years old.
On the other hand, the family told another story where Ibrahim has always teased their daughter. The girl left her house to avoid such harassment, but the fanatics spread rumors that the family is hiding her, which led hundreds of Muslims to siege her house and to clash with police forces causing the injury of 11 policemen.
The absence of "quick resolution" contributed to the aggravation of the situation. Customary reconciliation sessions tried to impede the law and to oppress the wronged party, the Copts as usual, as the fanatics and the demonstrators were trying to “save of the religion of God».
These customary moves led leaders of senior families to demand investigation with Amira to know what her religion is. Those senior leaders including the MP of Luxor didn’t calm the demonstrators, but accused her father of making his daughter disappear.
Amira Girgis is a minor girl who is under 21 years according to the Egyptian law. Therefore, she can’t convert to Islam or get married on her own. Moreover, Al-Azhar is the place where newly converted Muslims declare and document their new faith and not before some unknown Sheikh in unknown place. Police should deal with those who incite the sedition or deal with them according to the law. It should be the law and not the customary sessions.
