The blood of Coptic martyrs in Tanta and Alexandria colored the branches of palm that were prepared for the celebration of the feast last Sunday. There is a serious security failure by the security services in Gharbia and Alexandria as they did not intensify the security measures and take all precautionary measures to secure the churches during such Christian celebration, especially at the church in Tanta where an explosive device was dismantled couple of days before the attack.
Moreover, one week earlier, another terrorist attack occurred in Tanta at a police training camp, which proves there is a serious security negligence.
The security service in Alexandria did a good job and they were killed in the attack, but they saved a lot of lives in the church including Pope Tawadros who was leading the prayers in the same church.
We are facing terrorism and everybody has to take their responsibility. Unfortunately, we fight terrorism, but we do not fight extremist ideas. Curricula of al-Azhar should be revisited and the religious discourse should be renewed. In short, the law and curricula should join this war against terrorism.
The state has to protect the citizens and all measures should be taken to achieve such critical role. All negligent officials should be dismissed and stand trial for their deadly mistakes. The criminals should be arrested and stand trial as well, and the injured should receive the best medical care in order to save what can be saved. Moreover, the law should speed up the procedures to punish the terrorists.
Confronting terrorism requires the work of all state institutions and security treatments alone is not enough.
We are in a fierce war with terrorism at home and abroad and we will only succeed with unity among all Egyptians and all state institutions. Long Live Egypt.
