As Pope of the Vatican will visit Egypt on April 28-29, he will meet with Sheikh of Al-Azhar and Pope Tawadros in Cairo.
On that occasion, heads of the Muslim Sunnis and the Catholic and Orthodox Churches will meet, and I find this a great opportunity to announce a major humanitarian initiative of coexistence. The three of them can declare a mutual code of ethics, humanity and respect.
I invite them to renounce violence and the use of mass destruction and chemical weapons. They should make it clear that religion came to give the people better life, not to take lives away.
I plead them to seek an end to the conflicts in Syria, Yemen, and Libya under the auspices of the United Nations. Cairo can be the capital of peace in the region and play a major role in peace of the world.
