Al-Azhar Grand Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb announced that al-Azhar on Wednesday submitted to the presidency a bill to resist “hatred and violence in the name of religion”.
Due to anomalies and strange religious opinions that spread in the Egyptian society despite violating Islam and Sharia, Tayeb and other Al-Azhar senior scholars submitted the “counter-hatred and violence in the name of religion draft law”, Tayeb said at the end of a celebration with Laylat al-Qadr on Wednesday evening.
The draft law has been submitted to the president of the republic of Egypt after Al- Azhar’s Committee of Senior Scholars approved it, Tayeb added.
The bill contributes to reducing the manifestations of hatred and intolerance promoted by extremist groups, and stresses the principles of citizenship, and coexistence, according to Tayeb.
On May 13,Tayeb formed a committee headed by his legal adviser Mohamed Abdel Salam to prepare a bill to combat hatred and violence in the name of religion.
