Egypt s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry is set to visit Baghdad on Wednesday to congratulate the Iraqi government on its victory over Daesh forces in Mosul, Egypt s foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu-Zeid said on Tuesday.
Iraq declared victory in Mosul this week after a nearly nine-month battle that ravaged the city and took a heavy toll on residents and security forces.
Shoukry will meet with Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari, discussing bilateral relations and strategic issues of concern to the two nations.
"The visit comes amid strategic developments and regional challenges facing the Arab world,” said the statement published on the FM spokesman s Facebook page.
Among the key topics for discussion, said Abu-Zeid, is the activation of the Egyptian-Iraqi high-level committee, headed by the prime ministers of the two countries.
The committee will hold its first meeting in Baghdad at a later date.
Egypt s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi met with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Masum in May, on the sidelines of the Arab Islamic American Summit in the Saudi capital Riyadh.
