Germany refuses to deliver Egypt Muslim Brotherhood fugitive

Egyptian fugitive and Muslim Brotherhood member, Abdel Rahman Ezz, was detained by German authorities while attempting to leave for Turkey, following official calls from Egypt to Interpol to arrest the young man.

German authorities detained Ezz but released him due to a lack of evidence.

The young MB member is wanted as a terrorist, convicted of destabilizing Egypt’s national security and inciting violence against state institutions such as armed forces and police. Ezz was tried in absentia and received a life sentence.

He broadcasted video footage on his Facebook account, in which he said that German authorities at Berlin Airport suspended him due to an arrest warrant and call from Egyptian authorities, who want him delivered to Egypt.

He added that he has obtained political asylum from the UK, and that Egypt’s request and arrest warrant against him are illegal, which is why German authorities at Berlin Airport contacted the Egyptian Embassy in Germany to receive evidences of the charges against him.

The Egyptian Embassy in Germany sent the necessary evidence to authorities at Berlin Airport; however authorities decided to release him anyway, as the evidence was not clear, according to the state-run newspaper of Al-Ahram.

Ezz is considered one of the MB’s young leading figures who organized the sit-in at Rabaa Al Adawyia. The protest followed the ousting of MB affiliated former President Mohamed Morsi, through the June 30 uprising in 2013.
