A US delegation headed by senior advisor to President Donald Trump Jared Kushner arrived in Cairo for a brief visit to discuss bilateral ties, Egypt s official news agency MENA said on Wednesday
The two-day visit is aimed at discussing "bilateral relations and developments in the region."
The visit comes on the same day Egypt expressed its regret over a decision by Trump s administration to reduce US aid to Cairo.
A foreign ministry statement said on Wednesday that the measure involved "directly reducing some components of the Economic Support Fund, or withholding the disbursement of some components of the Military Assistance Program."
A US Senate hearing in April suggested that Washington reconsider its relationship with Cairo over concerns about Egypt s poor human rights record.
Egypt receives $1.3 billion annually in military aid from the United States and nearly $250 million in economic assistance.
