Sisi salutes Egyptians in speech commemorating October War

Egypt s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi gave a short speech commemorating the 44th anniversary of Egypt s 6 October victory against Israel on Wednesday, saluting the Egyptian people for their sacrifices in maintaining the capabilities of their great nation.

President El-Sisi gave the speech ahead of a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF).

"The October victory was not just a military triumph to liberate our lands, but also a victory over despair and frustration to restore dignity and peace," El-Sisi said.

"Our current war against terrorism requires unity to protect our beloved homeland s destiny and grant a bright future for our children," the president added.

"Together, we are determined to be guided by the spirit of the October War to lead us in victory against the current enemies of life and humanity and for the prosperity and development of our nation," El-Sisi concluded.

The October War, also known as the 1973 Arab-Israeli War, was fought by a coalition of Arab states led by Egypt and Syria against Israel from 6 to 25 October in 1973.

The war eventually led to Israeli forces withdrawing from the Sinai Peninsula in 1982 after 15 years of occupation, based on a peace treaty signed between Egypt and Israel in 1979.
