The army fended off a terror attack on a security checkpoint in the Kawadis area in North Sinai on Sunday, killing 24 militants, a statement by army spokesperson Tamer El-Refaei said.
The spokesperson added that six army personnel were killed during the fight.
El-Refaie added that two 4x4 vehicles used by the militants to carry out the attack were destroyed.
The Sunday attack in Kawadis comes only one day after the army said it had successfully thwarted a major attack on a security checkpoint in North Sinai s Al-Arish.
On Friday, six army personnel were killed in another attack on a security checkpoint also in the Al-Arish. A number of militants were killed and injured when the army personnel returned fire during that fight, the army said.
