Heart surgeon Sir Magdi Yacoub shrugs off health rumours to visit Abu Simbel

Egyptian-British cardiothoracic surgeon Sir Magdi Yacoub embarked on a tour of Abu Simbel Temple in Upper Egypt on Sunday, further putting paid to rumours concerning his health.

Yacoub visited the archaeological site in the company of several VIP guests from Britain who had come to see the Aswan Heart Centre, the cornerstone of the Magdy Yacoub Foundation.

On Saturday, Yacoub dismissed rumours of ill-health, speaking on the phone with the Ten O clock program on Dream TV channel. The internationally renowned cardiac surgeon said he is performing his daily job normally at the Aswan Heart Centre, which he established in 2009.

Yacoub and his VIP guests were escorted around Abu Simbel by Egyptologist Hosam Aboud, who told Ahram Online that the tour group was very pleased with their visit, documenting the event with photographs in front of the temple.

According to Aboud, Yacoub said that he had originally hoped to establish his heart foundation in the town of Abu Simbel due to its calmness, low humidity and pure air, all of which would help with patient recovery.

Regrettably, the plan did not come to fruition due to the remoteness of the location, making it difficult for patients to reach, said Aboud.
