Hawass sells his clothes for charity

CAIRO - Zahi Hawass, Egypt's Minister of State for Archaeological Affairs, has announced that a foreign company is going to market and sell the clothes he wore while engaged in archaeological excavations, with the proceeds going to the Children Cancer’s Hospital 57357, an international-standard charitable institution.

Hawass says that he asked Dr Sherif Abul Naga, the director of the hospital, to contact the foreign company about being given the money from the sale of his clothes.
A similar thing happened with his hat, which he used to wear on excavations – an American company sold it on his behalf and he used the proceeds to build the Children’s Museum in Heliopolis, an upmarket district of northeastern Cairo.
His hat has raised almost $200,000 for the museum, which was patronised by Suzanne Mubarak, the wife of Egypt’s recently deposed President.
