Egypt has condemned a deadly blast at a voter registration centre in Kabul on Sunday that left at least 57 people dead as Afghanistan prepares for nationwide elections in the autumn.
In a statement on Saturday, the Egyptian foreign ministry decried the attack, which was claimed by the Islamic State terrorist group, expressing its sincere condolences to the families of the victims.
"The Egyptian government and people stand with the government and people of Afghanistan against abhorrent terrorism," the statement read.
A suicide bomber blew himself up outside a voter registration center in the Afghan capital on Sunday, killing at least 57 people and injuring more than 100, in the most serious attack yet on preparations for elections scheduled for October, Reuters reported.
The Islamic State group claimed their responsibility for the blast in a statement on the militant group s AMAQ news website.
The Egyptian foreign ministry statement called on the international community to take a decisive position on global terrorism, drying up the sources of financing and ending safe havens for terrorist groups.
