Egypt s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed in a Cairo meeting on Sunday with Yemeni counterpart Abdulmalik Al-Mekhlafi the need for a political solution to the crisis in Yemen, according to a statement by Egypt s foreign ministry.
"The talks focused on assessing the political situation and the balance of power in Yemen," the statement said.
Shoukry stressed that no military solution to the Yemeni crisis should be considered, expressing Egypt s readiness to provide political support for efforts to achieve peace and a political solution to the seven-year-old conflict.
Shoukry also stressed the importance of Egyptian-Yemeni relations while affirming Egypt s keenness to support the security and stability of Yemen, evidenced by Egypt s provision of medical supplies sent to Yemen.
The Egyptian FM also highlighted Egypt s commitment to working on restoring the stability of Yemen, which can only be achieved by respecting the unity and sovereignty of the country.
Al-Mekhlafi apprised Shoukry of the security situation in all Yemeni cities, as well as efforts and communications by the newly appointed UN envoy to Yemen with international and regional parties.
