Though they are very important for the Egyptians, donkeys never receive the due respect in Egypt. They are known for being hard working, and thus, we call the hard working people donkey-like-worker but even this idiom has become more of an insult to the hard working people.
Being important and hardworking was not enough for the Egyptian culture to preserve the dignity of the donkeys. Many times do the donkey owners hit them and describe them as idiots and many times they are slaughtered to end their miserable life as false beef meals.
The history of donkey in Egypt was different as it was the most important load and people carrier in Ancient Egypt. It was also used for plough the seed into the ground. Donkeys kept the hard working, but they were treated badly in return.
I believe this is the reason behind our problems, which is that we don t appreciate hard working people or animals. It is time to change such culture as we are in dire need for working hard in order to develop and overcome many problems. It is time to show donkeys the respect and honor they deserve.
