Egypt, Uganda sign energy, industrial and agricultural development agreements in Cairo meeting

Egypt and Uganda signed a number of cooperation agreements on Tuesday in a ceremony in Cairo attended by ministers of both countries and presided over by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Musevni.

The agreements were made during the Ugandan delegation s two-day trip to Cairo as part of the second meeting of the Joint Permanent Commission between the two countries.
 
Among other agreements, Egyptian Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker and Ugandan Minister of Energy Irene Nafuna Muloni penned a deal and an executive contract to establish a 4-megawatt solar power plant in Uganda.
 
Egypt s Trade and Industry Minister Tarek Kabil and Ugandan Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Egyptian Industrial Authority and Uganda s Investment Authority on establishing and managing a number of industrial parks.
 
Egyptian Agriculture Minister Abdel-Moneim Al-Banna and Ugandan Animal Industry and Fishery Ministery Vincent Ssempijja also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of agriculture.
 
A final communiqué of the Joint Permanent Commission was also signed by Egypt s Foreign Minister Sameh and his Ugandan counterpart Kutesa.
 
The comission was established between the two countries in August 2015 to boost cooperation and bilateral relations, and is set to meet every two years.
 
The signing ceremony was followed by a joint press conference by Presidents El-Sisi and Musevni.
