Recently, the Minister of Transportation announced that there will be an increase in the price of Metro tickets. The new pricing structure is between 3 and 7 pounds depending on how many stations the passenger takes.
Generally speaking, any increase in public transportation fees is normal. However, there are rules for these increases to take place. Last year, the Government also put through an increase on ticket prices to be 2 pounds instead of 1.
The problem here, is that the Government does not follow a policy or any specific regulations in order to promote a steady, consistent pricing increase. Instead, the Egyptian people find themselves suddenly dealing with a 100% increase in prices without any justifiable reason.
If the Government adopted a policy to increase the ticket prices gradually, and with a small amount, I do not think it would be an issue for any Egyptian to accept. The problem is the Government increases the ticket prices every year over 100% which is an insane trend that nobody could accept.
In conclusion, I want to reiterate the fact that the Egyptian Government does not seem to care about the Egyptian citizens when it comes to pricing structure and how decisions are made about it.
